Una casa en un jardín

Casa Nook posee una materialidad neutra y geometría pura rodeada de un jardín de perímetro irregular, lo cual propicia que se dé una transición gradual entre la vida íntima del espacio doméstico y las rutinas abrumantes de la ciudad.

 

El acceso peatonal es independiente, y gracias a la curvatura en uno de sus paramentos, invita y da la bienvenida a quienes acceden. Al cruzar por este umbral, la primera imagen con la que nos encontramos es la de un guayabo japonés, y como telón de fondo una fachada de barro blanco que enmarca su silueta.

 

El cuerpo principal se desplanta sobre un cuadrado de nueve por nueve metros y se eleva tres niveles formando un cubo. A su vez, cada nivel está dividido en tres módulos, el primero alberga los usos principales, el segundo acoge los espacios complementarios y el tercero contiene los servicios, aprovechando así la orientación más favorable para los espacios de mayor uso.

 

El acceso principal es por medio de un mudroom, vestíbulo que funge como un lugar de transición antes de ingresar al hogar. En este módulo de servicios con orientación norte, también se encuentran la escalera y un medio baño, significando así una barrera climática y sonora para proteger los espacios domésticos. A un costado encontramos el área de la estancia y el comedor, mientras que en el tercer módulo se encuentra la cocina de orientación poniente sin divisiones entre ésta y el comedor, a modo de contar con mayor amplitud y practicidad en el uso de los espacios.

 

En el primer nivel, encontramos la estancia familiar con una terraza, un espacio diáfano que aprovecha la conexión con los paisajes del jardín, propiciando así que la convivencia no se limite a los momentos de ver la televisión, sino que pueda permitir la interacción y el desarrollo de actividades a cualquier hora del día. Por su parte, el módulo secundario contiene un dormitorio y el módulo de servicios contiene el cuarto de lavado, un baño completo y nuevamente la escalera, la cual nos permite continuar el recorrido hacia el siguiente nivel habitable.

 

En el segundo nivel, se encuentran otras dos habitaciones. El módulo principal, contiene un dormitorio con walk-in closet y una terraza, esta vez con ventanas al sur, en aras de aprovechar la calidez de esta orientación, mientras que el módulo secundario contiene otro dormitorio de las mismas características que el del nivel anterior. Finalmente, el módulo de servicios contiene los baños, uno similar al de la recámara en primer nivel y el otro con tina para el dormitorio principal.

 

Tras este recorrido, es posible notar que en cada nivel, las vistas son dirigidas hacia diferentes direcciones logrando la constante interacción entre el adentro y el afuera. Con estos sutiles cambios de enfoque y luminosidad, Casa Nook, logra generar una experiencia dinámica en continua relación con la naturaleza.

A house is a garden

Nook House possesses neutral materiality and pure geometry. It is surrounded by a garden with an irregular perimeter, which facilitates a gradual transition between the intimate atmosphere of a domestic space and the hectic routine of city life.

 

The exterior main access is independent, and thanks to the curvature in one of its walls, it invites and welcomes those who enter. When crossing this threshold, the first image we come upon is that of a japanese guava tree, and as a backdrop a white clay facade that frames its silhouette.

 

The main block stands on a square which measures nine by nine meters and rises three levels forming a cube. In turn, each level is divided into three modules, the first one houses the main uses, the second houses the complementary spaces and the third contains the service area, thus optimizing the best orientation for the most commonly used spaces.

 

The main access is through a mudroom, a foyer that serves as a place of transition before entering the home. In this north-facing service module, there are also the stairs and a half-bath, which provide a climatic and sound barrier to protect domestic spaces. On one side is the living room and dining room area, while in the third module is the kitchen, with no partitions, facing west, and the dining room. This layout provides greater spaciousness and practicality in the use of spaces.

 

On the first level, we find the family room with a terrace, an open space that takes advantage of the connection with the landscape of the garden, thus promoting that coexistence is not limited to moments of watching television, but can actually allow interaction and development of other activities at any time of the day. In turn, the secondary module has a bedroom and the service module which contains the laundry room, a full bathroom, and again the staircase, which allows us to continue the journey to the next habitable level.

 

On the second level, there are two other rooms. The main module has a bedroom with a walk-in closet and terrace, and windows facing south so as to take advantage of the warmth of this disposition. Meanwhile the secondary module contains another bedroom with the same features as the one on the previous level. Finally, the service module has two bathrooms; one similar to the one on the first level and the other one with a bathtub for the master bedroom.

 

After this tour, it is possible to notice that at each level, the views are directed towards different directions, achieving the constant interaction between the inside and the outside. With these subtle changes in focus and light, Nook House manages to generate a dynamic experience in continuous relationship with nature.
